WestRock Company Management Trainee in Sioux City, Iowa

The opportunity:

We are seeking a Management Trainee to be located at our production facility in St. Cloud, MN. The successful candidate will manage and coordinate the efforts of hourly department team members, ensure product specifications are met with a high standard of quality and ensure compliance with all standards, policies and regulations for the safe, environmentally sound production of a quality product. Special emphasis will be on candidates with extensive quality management, continuous improvement, and/or performance excellence experience who can provide leadership and direction to team members and collaborate with the management team to drive results for successful outcomes.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Manage and coordinate the efforts of hourly team members by actively engaging with staff on the production floor.

  • Ensure product specifications are met with a high standard of quality by interpreting data and auditing production results within various departments.

  • Ensure compliance with all standards, policies, and regulations for the safe, environmentally sound production for a quality product.

  • Lead and direct team members to successful outcomes by following policies, relaying expectations, and holding team members accountable.

  • Ensure a safety-oriented environment at the facility for all team members, vendors and customers through safety initiatives, training, leadership development, observations on the floor, and enforcement of policies.

  • Provide leadership and vision to the management team to help drive results and meet production, quality, and safety goals.

What you need to succeed:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Work effectively with team members to provide a safe work environment.

  • Make recommendations to improve safety, environmental and health of the entire facility.

  • Manage day-to-day operations of designated shift/area with constant emphasis on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

  • Direct, train and coach team members through actively engaging staff on the production floor on aspects of lean manufacturing, team effectiveness a continuous improvement.

  • Manage team members to include performance reviews and discipline.

  • Maintain department shop floor metrics, visual controls, and continuous improvement methods on the manufacturing floor.

  • Direct and execute daily production requirements.

  • Meet or exceed productivity goals/BHS corrugator goals.

  • Maintain waste generation at or below budgeted standards.

  • Ensure quality standards are met and maintained by understanding, implementing, and enforcing compliance with customer, regulatory and WestRock policies and processes.

  • Inspect the finished product to ensure quality specifications are met.

  • Be able to track, analyze and execute quality and facility improvement initiatives as determined from performance data.

  • Identify project opportunities to improve the business and support effective application of best practices SW, WOC and SOPs.

  • Organize, manage, develop, and implement project plans, processes and systems as assigned.

  • Lead safety efforts through regular plant inspections, team member trainings, compliance, initiatives, and directives throughout the facility.

  • Ensure and maintain housekeeping excellence.

  • Demonstrate ability to execute projects in fast-paced environment and ensure that all production and reporting is completed timely and accurately.

Qualifications needed:

  • Must have 3 - 7 years of supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing setting; paper, or corrugated environment preferred.

  • Proven track record of problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication skills to engage, inspire and hold team members accountable.

  • Ability to track and interpret data.

  • Capable of assuming authority as needed.

  • Professional training and certifications preferred (i.e. Six Sigma, ISO Certification)

  • Must have HS Diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.

  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.
