Position Purpose:

The Clinical Educator is a member of the MercyOne inpatient education team. The Clinical Educator is accountable for advancing and maintaining nurse competence, enhancing professional nursing practice, and supporting achievement of career goals. Instruction is building on the educational and experiential bases of nurses across the novice to expert continuum. He/she supports a shared leadership philosophy and advances the professional practice model for patient care services. Oversees and leads the Nurse Residency program implementation.

Collaborates with nursing leadership on the development of educational programs.

What you will Do:

  • Utilize research and evidence-based practice standards in the delivery of patient care and educational offerings.

  • Continuously seek out opportunities to improve the quality of patient care delivery through innovative and creative problem solving.

  • Contribute to the positive image of nursing and enhance the magnet culture of the organization by modeling professional behavior both in the organization and in the community.

  • Coordinates educational initiatives and activities with internal and external agencies.

  • Direct oversight of the Nurse Residency Program

  • Demonstrates ethical conduct and practice consistent with the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (2015).

  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge and clinical competency in nursing professional practice and education and serves as a role model.

  • Demonstrates ethical conduct and practice consistent with the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (2015).

  • Assures appropriate orientation, education, credentialing, and continuing professional development of

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing. Must have a BSN or bachelor’s degree in a related field. Prefer MSN or relevant master’s degree.

  • Requires a current nursing license to practice in the state of Iowa. Requires a minimum of three years of experience in nursing practice.

  • Ability to develop new and innovative education opportunities to meet the changing needs of the learner.

  • Demonstrated excellence in assuming various roles of a professional nursing educator such as educator, facilitator, change agent, consultant, researcher and leader preferred.

  • Extensive theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in clinical specialty.

  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Certified, as Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Nurse Core Curriculum, Active membership in a professional organization preferred with certification in critical care nursing (CEN) desired.
