Summary of Position Objectives: We are seeking a dynamic and versatile professional to fill the role of Laboratory Informatics Officer. This position is responsible for administering and optimising Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) while also contributing to broader information systems analysis within the laboratory setting. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of technical expertise in laboratory informatics, strong analytical skills, and the ability to bridge the gap between laboratory processes and information technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer and maintain Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) to ensure optimal functionality and performance.

  • Collaborate with laboratory staff to understand workflow requirements and implement system enhancements accordingly.

  • Ensure the security and integrity of laboratory data within informatics systems.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to laboratory informatics.

  • Analyse laboratory and business processes to identify areas for improvement.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather system requirements and translate them into technical specifications.

  • Design, implement, and optimise information systems to enhance laboratory efficiency.

  • Provide technical expertise in the integration of laboratory informatics with broader organisational information systems.

  • Collaborate with service operations, lab management and laboratory staff to ensure proper data storage, retrieval, and analysis.

  • Implement data quality control measures to maintain the accuracy and reliability of laboratory data.

  • Develop and deliver training programs for laboratory staff on the use of informatics systems.

  • Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting assistance to end-users.

  • Ensure that laboratory informatics systems comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

  • Implement security measures to safeguard sensitive laboratory data.

  • Stay informed about advancements in laboratory informatics and recommend updates or enhancements as needed.

  • Maintain detailed documentation of laboratory informatics systems, configurations, and changes.

  • Generate regular reports on system performance, user activity, and key performance indicators.

  • Communicate findings and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems, Biotechnology, Medical Sciences).

  • Proven experience in laboratory informatics administration and systems analysis (at least 3 years).

  • Strong knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems, LIMS, and relevant laboratory technologies.

  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Basic, SQL) and experience with relevant databases.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
