Purpose of the position

Primary Job :

Directly responsible for the efficient use of workshop space, equipment and manpower available for coordinating and supervising the work required for repair and maintenance of the heavy equipment and their components. In accordance with the sale orders and requirements of the customer, this position also advises and makes recommendations to the service manager in the best interest for the service department.

Secondary Job :

This position will oversee and manage the workflow of assignments, while working with customers to resolve any complaints so as to ensure customer satisfaction.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Assesses workload, prepares servicing schedules, and assigns most qualified technicians based on their service performance to service tasks within the workshop.

  • Maintains proper balance of qualified personnel to service the work; writes or directs the recording of workshop repair orders, monitors repair progress of all assigned jobs, obtains commitment for time of completion and performs final inspection on completed work within the facility.

  • Recommends, implements, and evaluates policies, procedures, and standards for all aspects of repair and maintenance jobs performed within the facility.

  • Provides necessary directions, coordination and specialised guidance to technicians and other shop personnel regarding the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment so as to ensure the quality of work performed and maintain the performance standards.

  • Negotiates for external contracting arrangements with private shops and vendors for repair and/or maintenance of the equipment.

  • Ensures that a proper library of manuals, service bulletins, instructions and references for technicians, equipment and service operators is maintained and properly used.

  • Ensures that the workshop (layout, flow and process, staffing) are equipped according to manufacturer’s requirement & standard, and necessary shop tools and equipment are available and maintained in good order.

  • Serves as primary contact for employees who deliver equipment to the facility for service or repair, discusses with customers in order to understand and diagnose the problem, and explains technical information as so required for customers’ understanding and satisfaction.

  • Oversees the overhauling, repairing and handling of all used or traded-in pieces of equipment

  • Manages a safe work environment for all service department employees, develops, implements, enforces, and maintains safety standards, policies, practices, and procedures in order to comply with laws and regulations so as to minimise accidents and injuries; assists in the planning, development, and implementation of safety programmes; conducts and documents safety meetings periodically.

  • Coaches and provides career development advice to his staff, makes recommendations to the Supervisor for necessary changes in staffing so as to meet demands of workload; interviews applicants and makes recruitment recommendations.

  • Counsels employees and recommends corrective and/or disciplinary action when appropriate, documents employee performance, and maintains employee records.

  • Conducts regular meetings with personnel to compare performance with standards and goals.

  • Assists the Supervisor to assess and issue quotes for repair to be done within the workshop.

  • Sees that workshop work orders are properly handled, and that proper entries concerning man hours or parts and equipment used are accounted for.

  • Follow-up progress of each repair order during the day by calling up customers regarding changes in the estimate or time promised.

  • Ensures that sublet repairs such as machining, fabrications, pump calibration, etc. are properly scheduled, completed and repair hours are accounted for.

  • Prepares and approves requisitions for parts and shop supplies and develops and implements inventory controls to minimise waste and loss.

  • Maintains a variety of records, including personnel, attendance, and time sheets, and submits reports as required.

  • Reports to the service manager any problems encountered in relation to customer dissatisfaction regarding service or product performance.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

What you’ll need to succeed

Education:

  • Diploma in related field.

Experience:

  • Related experience in Services within the industrial equipment industry

Skill Requirements:

  • Fluent in English and Mandarin.

  • Good knowledge of MS Excel (or any other ERP system). SAP knowledge is a plus.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Self-motivated and seeking high standards

  • Resourcefulness and implementation of action skills

  • Excellent customer relationship management skills

  • Strong technical background (mechanical or electrical).

  • Open-minded person with the ability to work within an international team and cross-cultural environment
