Who we’re looking for:

Wolfspeed’s Materials Business is seeking a high potential, resourceful, hands-on, problem solving Process Engineer with the capacity to quickly grasp and resolve a wide range of technical challenges as well as meet goals for new equipment qualification and production. The ideal candidate for this position will thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and work constructively with a cross-functional team of engineers and technicians. The person in this role will be responsible for qualifying and monitoring new and established equipment, quantifying raw material impact, and analyzing and improving processes with respect to quality, yield, and cost of SiC substrate production.

This posting is for a position that will directly support operations at the John Palmour Manufacturing Center for Silicon Carbide, our expansion site in Siler City, NC. The person in this role will train at our Durham, NC headquarters initially before moving over to the new site.

The Day-to-Day:

  • Responsible for owning a variety of engineering duties related to the start-up and validation of new equipment, planning and design of new products, improvement of manufacturing methods and initiating changes for cost effectiveness, speed, and throughput.
  • Establishing and improving procedures and qualification plans for bringing new processes online in an exciting, new state-of-the-art facility.
  • Owns investigation, troubleshooting, and improvement of equipment impact on safety, quality, and cost of SiC substrate production processes.
  • Defines control parameters, develops and maintains monitoring systems to rapidly detect and act upon process variations.
  • Defines and refines methods to increase process repeatability and control to achieve higher yields, lower costs, higher flexibility, lower variation, and a safe work environment
  • Applies good engineering practices to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Provides data analysis and understanding of the SiC manufacturing using databases and data analysis tools.
  • Initiates, manages, and participates in projects to improve wafer quality and yield to exceed customer expectations.
  • Works with R&D team to define, qualify, and transition processes from research through development and production.
  • Defines, trains, qualifies, and leads process changes with salaried and hourly staff to ensure repeatability, reproducibility, and control.

This Job is Right for You if You Have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Materials Science.
  • At least two years of full time Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment troubleshooting equipment, material, or process impact on product quality and yield.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities, ability to think independently, excellent attention to detail and analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Willing to work in non-cleanroom type environment.
  • Excellent MS Office skills.
  • High energy, self-motivated attitude with strong communication skills and ability to interface effectively with coworkers of different backgrounds at every level of the company.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Front-end Semiconductor processing experience (Examples: wafering, polishing, grinding)
  • Familiarity with JMP, Tableau, or similar software packages.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCad or similar software.
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and demonstrated success in complete process ownership within a 24x7 manufacturing environment.
  • Installation and Start-up Qualification, Six Sigma, and Lean Manufacturing experience.
  • Excellent English language verbal communication, written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Statistical process control (SPC) experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent overall computer and analytical skills.
