Commander, Navy Installations Recreation Aid (Lifeguard) in Sigonella Sicily, Italy

Summary This position is located at NAS Sigonella, Aquatics Section, Fitness Branch, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department. The primary function of the incumbent is to perform lifeguard duties, responsible for safeguarding the lives of persons using the respective swimming pool to which assigned. Responsibilities Rescues swimmers and administers first aid as required. Performs work in the swimming program, including instruction in various swimming skills and styles and basic diving for various age groups. Provides information to swimmers regarding safety rules and procedures. Checks identification to ensure that only authorized patrons are utilizing the facility. Ensures that all patrons and guests sign the attendance log. Observes activities of patrons in the pool area to ensure that safety rules are followed. Assists in maintaining pool and area clean and free from any hazards. This includes vacuuming, sweeping and hosing deck, cleaning chairs, emptying trash, keeping guard shacks clean, washing windows, washing slide, picking up trash around perimeter and general cleanliness of pool. Collects fees, makes change and completes appropriate forms. Reports problems to appropriate personnel. Maintains records, reports and information regarding the following: hourly patron attendance water chemistry, daily weather conditions and incidents. Performs water chemistry according to established schedule and informs Public Works and Pool Manager if levels are not acceptable. Ensures that all equipment is in working order and ready for immediate use. Appropriate personnel must be notified immediately if equipment is not within working standards. Is responsible for all duties listed in the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Is responsible to attend all in-service trainings. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Current certification as an American Red Cross Lifeguard or an equivalent certificate. Emergency First Responder or CPR/First Aid/AED Certification. Education Additional Information Executive Order 12564 requires a Federal workplace free of illegal drugs.
