THE POSITION Apply your medical record knowledge in a new and exciting environment! The State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Forest is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic, self-motivated person to join their staff as a Medical Records Assistant. If you are looking for a way to advance and expand your expertise, then this is a great opportunity for you!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK As a Medical Records Assistant for the Department of Corrections, you will prepare and maintain the inmate medical reports at SCI Forest. The records you are in charge of are both physical and electronic. By creating and filing the medical records and reports of inmates, you ensure all information is up to date and accurate. You will also compile all inmate medical records for transfer and assist the medical department with data entry.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,003.00 (before taxes).

      REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of clerical experience in a medical records department of a hospital, or ambulatory acute medical care setting or a licensed nursing facility, which has included six months of experience under the general direction or oversight by a registered Medical Records Technician or Administrator; and graduation from high school; or
  • Graduation from a medical secretarial or medical records program; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
