Lockheed Martin Metallurgical/NDI Inspector B in Shelton, Connecticut

Description:  Perform non-destructive testing/inspection operations on all types of ferrous and non-ferrous parts and materials.

 Interpret and follow standard inspection procedures, drawings, specifications, technique sheets records and other oral or written instructions to set up, perform system checks and operate non-destructive testing equipment and other metallurgical inspection equipment for various inspection operations.

 Inspect flight safety critical characteristics on gears and dynamically – loaded rotor head components.

 Perform electrical conductivity test to verify proper alloy and heat treatment.

 Check production, test and overhaul and repair parts and materials for indications of fatigue, cracks, quenching or grinding cracks, burns material defects, such as inclusions, laps, gas holes, laminations, etc.

 Develop inspection technique sheets; inspect production, components, overhaul and repair parts and materials for inherent material defects as well as defect caused by processing and manufacturing operations and service-induced fatigue.

 Analyze and evaluate all indications and determine disposition of parts not meeting acceptance criteria.

 Grind or polish as required to evaluate indications within drawing limits.

 Keep clear and accurate inspection records.

 Assist Engineering Materials Lab to inspect and analyze problems returned from service and supplier variation reports.

 Test parts for required drawings and specification hardness.

 Responsible for preparation of baths and solutions, system effectiveness and correct functioning of equipment.

 Comply with all pertinent inspection paperwork, maintain required records and move material using hoist and/or handcart as necessary.

 Prepare parts for inspection and apply anti-corrosive or rust inhibitors to parts as applicable.

 Responsible to maintain one (1) current Level I NDI certification.

 Perform other related inspection duties when required.

 Direct and instruct one or two helpers as necessary.

 Maintain close contact with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Inspection Supervision, Materials Engineering and Suppliers concerning discrepancies of parts.

 Perform other duties consistent with inspection operations as instructed.

 Work with Supervision and working leaders to resolve problems.

 Perform operator checklist as required.

 Contribute to the overall effectiveness of equipment by performing operator required upkeep.

 Follow all rules and regulations pertaining to environmental health and safety.

 Segregate waste material and follow good housekeeping practices.

 Refer only unusual conditions to Working Leader or supervisor.

Basic Qualifications:

Requires knowledge of shop mathematics and the ability to read and interpret drawings, use calipers, micrometers, hardness testing, conductivity equipment and required NDT equipment.

Be familiar with various types of metal, detectable defect, and inspection systems.

Certified to the requirements of NAS 410 – Level I in one (1) non-destructive testing method AND/OR requires certification for electrical conductivity and flight safety parts.

2 to 3 years experience

U.S Citizenship Required.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
