The Charter Township of Shelby Police Department is accepting applications for the Police Cadet Program. Cadets participating in this program will be given the training required to progress into the position of Patrol Officer. Opportunities for sponsorship for the Police Academy are available for top performers. Cadets will be trained and assigned duties such as completing police reports, assistance with fleet services, department errands, ride-alongs with sworn officers, and other responsibilities associated with police-related job duties. We are seeking candidates who meet the qualifications for advancement to Patrol Officer, therefore, only those who meet those qualifications will be considered for the Cadet Program. The hourly rate of pay for the Police Cadet position is $17.00 per hour, with no benefits but the opportunity is priceless. Here are the requirements:
 
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of application.
  • Possess or actively working towards a minimum of an Associate's Degree.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license to operate a vehicle in the State of Michigan, demonstrate a good driving record, and meet the driving record requirements of the Shelby Township Police & Fire Civil Service Commission. Must have a State of MI driver's license prior to beginning employment. (Provide a copy of a valid Driver's License).
  • Must not have been convicted of a violation of criminal law. (Criminal law generally includes all offenses except traffic law, conservation law, and liquor law).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a passing M.C.O.L.E.S. written and physical test result at the time of hire to Patrol Officer.
