TOOLE COUNTY Legal Assistant in SHELBY, Montana

Toole County is looking for a Legal Assistant. An incumbent in this position may be assigned to any County Department that might require such a position. The Legal Assistant performs paralegal/legal assistance in support of a county legal office or court. Assists lawyers by compiling facts, gathering information, & organizing evidence or documents for cases. Duties include preparing initial drafts of legal documents according to court rules & statutes; conducting research to support legal proceedings regarding specific topics, statutes, case law, court rules, & legislative history; & conducting legal research under the supervision of an attorney. Prepare written reports used in determining how certain legal proceedings should be handled based on analyzed & organized information. Help prepare legal arguments, draft pleadings, & motions to be filed with courts, & assist attorneys during trials. Organize & track files of all important case documents & to ensure they are readily available & easily accessible to attorneys. Attend workshops, seminars, & educational sessions to keep updated on changes in assigned area of departmental responsibility. Perform a variety of miscellaneous duties such as running errands, picking up supplies needed for activities, making arrangements for use of county facilities, setting up tables & chairs, etc. Maintain & trouble shoot computer systems by diagnosing & resolving routine computer equipment & software problems, make minor repairs to copiers & other equipment, & refer problems to other county staff or contractors when needed.
