Industrial Design Consultancy Lead / Senior Design Engineer in Shanghai, China

IDC is looking for a Lead/Senior Design Engineer to be based in Shanghai China.

The role

We are looking for a lead/senior design engineer to conceive and implement technical product design solutions and working concepts through to full engineering detail and ready for manufacture.

  • Take a lead role in designing & developing technical product solutions across a wide range of healthcare product sectors, from usability research and concepts throughs to production

  • Take ownership of multi discipline projects ensuring creative and technical idea generation and development based on preliminary research and sound engineering principles

  • Ensure our high quality and technical standards are being met on time and to budget, reporting directly to the Managing Directors (IDC China & UK)

  • 3D CAD modelling (Solidworks)

  • Mentoring and supporting junior members to plan career progression and ensure high achievement

  • Liaising with internal & external stakeholders ensuring customer needs are understood and met through project delivery and on going client relations

  • Report to IDC UK on Quality management activities and represent IDC China in internal & external audits

  • Managing prototype production and testing to prove out principles and production solutions

  • Liaising with different manufacturers and suppliers to ensure solutions are easily transferred into production with experience of high-volume manufacture

  • Help us identify how we could improve - as that is a key element on how we’ve achieved so much over the past years

  • Detailed design from concept to production with high attention to detail

  • Development to managing projects and multi-discipline teams – ensuring projects are on-time, to budget, appropriately documented & delivering innovation to our client’s requirements

     

You are:

  • Motivated, curious and passionate about design & engineering

  • A creative, collaborative and flexible team-player

  • Able to think comprehensively to generate ideas and develop a justified point of view

  • Experienced in human centred design from concept to production

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Able to present clearly and concisely and explain design and engineering decisions

  • A hands-on engineer happy at a CAD station or in the prototype workshop

  • A go-getter with a passion for understanding how things work

  • A native English speaker with great presentation and communication skills

     

You have evidence of:

  • Degree level qualification ideally 2:1 and above in Mechanical Engineering / Product Design/Engineering

  • 10+ years’ experience

  • Creative problem solving with an aptitude for researching and applying different technologies

  • Engineering analysis, math models and detail engineering specification

  • Experience taking projects from initial brief through to manufacture & delivering products to market

  • Familiar with a wide range of materials and manufacturing processes including injection moulding, machining and fabrication

  • Depth of knowledge of manufacturing processes (for plastic/metal) and its design requirements

  • Strong knowledge of ISO13485 or other quality management systems

     

Ideal but not compulsory:

  • Medical device development experience

  • Project management experience

  • Understanding of electrical engineering integration

  • Consultancy experience
