We are recruiting an outstanding Mechanical Engineer to join our R&D team in Shakopee, MN. You will be required to be in the office three days a week. This team focuses on the research and development of strategic fiber optic products.

How You'll Help Us Connect the World:

Our R&D Engineers build innovative designs of new components and assemblies and documentation to support the release of new and modified cable products by meeting project targets and schedules and documentation of product requirements based on industry standards. In this role, you will be responsible for cable documentation/product research and development activities, including investigations, product development, platforming and continuous improvement. Activities include working with cross-functional teams to innovate, design, bring new products to market, and continuously improve existing products through cost and efficiencies.

  • Develop product requirements documentation based on industry standards. This includes power cable, fiber cable, hybrid cable, cable assemblies and enclosures.

  • Create innovative designs of new components and assemblies utilizing Solid Works

  • Review and approve cable/product design and engineering change documentation for conformance to company, customer, agency and industry specifications and standards.

This position has growth potential per the engineering technical ladder, with four additional engineering titles, each with growing responsibilities. International travel may be required in this role.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and three or more years of engineering and product development experience

  • SolidWorks experience

  • Understanding of design for manufacturing

  • Consistent track record of delivering technical improvements to existing products/processes/services.

  • Ability to travel internationally.

You Will Excite Us If You Have:

  • Experience with the design & test of fiber optic connectors, cable assemblies, Experience with design & test of fiber optic connectors, cable assemblies, and closures

  • Ansys simulation software

  • Experience with fiber, power and hybrid cable standards and manufacturing methods.

  • Familiarity with international and domestic standards for FTTA applications.

  • Hardened/outdoor product design experience, exposure to harsh environmental and mechanical stresses

  • General knowledge of outside plant fiber optic architectures
