Bellefaire JCB Registered Nurse (RN) in Shaker Heights, Ohio

Bellefaire JCB is among the nation’s largest, most experienced child service agencies providing a variety of behavioral health, substance abuse, education and prevention services. Through more than 25 programs, we help more than 30,000 youth and their families each year achieve resiliency, dignity and self-sufficiency.

Position Summary: The Registered Nurse will be responsible for administering and supervising medication administration and participation in the plan of care for clients. They will respond to health needs of the clients as needed, making appropriate referrals and assessments.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Administers and supervises the administration of medication to clients in residential treatment units, transitional living, Monarch School and After School Program within the established guidelines.

  • Participates in the implementation of the plan of care for Bellefaire JCB clients.

  • Makes rounds in cottages and attends to health care needs of clients.

  • Makes physical assessments of clients, and documents significant findings in the client’s record.

  • Makes appropriate referrals to the pediatrician after screening clients.

  • Assists the pediatrician with examining clients in the Health Clinic.

  • Teaches clients and staff about health care topics and medications.

  • Utilizes the time log system to document billable hours of direct care.

  • Performs medical treatments on clients when indicated (wound care, etc.).

  • Orients new staff and trains them on policies and procedures.

  • Attends client staffing and treatment team meetings as indicated.

  • Assists and trains cottage staff to make appropriate decisions pertaining to the health care needs of clients.

  • Notes, transcribes, and checks orders against Medical Administration Record (MARs) when indicated.

  • Contacts the physician with abnormal lab results and with emergencies.

  • Counts narcotics daily and signs the audit sheets for controlled substances.

  • Orders, receives and distributes routine and Leave of Absence (LOA) medications.

  • Returns and credits medications when indicated.

  • Calls for lab results when indicated and follows up on outside medical appointments.

  • Assists with daily operations of the Health Clinic.  Assists the secretary with filing, obtaining consent and scheduling outside appointments.

  • Participates in Quality Improvement as indicated.

  • Keeps the exam room and Health Clinic clean, stocked and orderly.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the clinical record through the timely completion of assigned documentation in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.

Qualifications Include:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing school.

  • Valid Ohio Registered Nurse license

  • Experience working with children and adolescents.

  • Sensitivity in relating to persons of varying backgrounds and demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of people possessing various strengths, aptitudes and abilities.

  • Ability to perform job responsibilities with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment.

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in using Agency computer systems and software as required to perform essential job functions.

  • Practical and creative problem solving skills.
