Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 4461477 THE POSITION The Department of Transportation is currently looking for an Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager to join their team. This role involves assisting the County Maintenance Manager and overseeing maintenance operations in a designated area of the Snyder County Maintenance Organization.  If you have strong leadership skills and the drive to see a project through to completion, do not let this incredible opportunity slip away!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK Your role as the Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager, will encompass the development of programs, estimates, and plans for various maintenance operations, including surface treatment, patching, snow removal, and bridge maintenance. As part of your responsibilities, you will prepare preliminary drafts of long-term, annual, monthly, and weekly work plans for seasonal construction and maintenance programs, which will require approval from a higher-level manager. You will oversee both general and specialized maintenance crews, ensuring efficient performance of highway and bridge maintenance activities and minor construction projects.

Managing incident and emergency management activities for your assigned area will also be a part of your role. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing and monitoring environmental clearances and permits for highway and bridge construction and maintenance activities. Conducting periodic inspections of highway, bridge, or tunnel conditions will be necessary, as well as inspecting the work of subordinate supervisors. You will review estimates and requests for authorization of funds, personnel, materials, and equipment requirements on a seasonal and annual basis, and recommend appropriate actions based on your review. Lastly, you will manage all requisitions or purchase orders for materials and equipment, as well as prepare correspondence and reports.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • This position may be eligible for an alternate work schedule.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the Snyder County Maintenance Office.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator, or Transportation Construction Manager 1; or
  • Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or maintenance of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement: This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
