SUMMARY:

The Laser Operator manages the operation of laser cutting machines to produce parts and components based on specific designs. This includes blueprints, adjusting machinery, and ensuring product quality, precision, and efficiency.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Align and secure materials on the laser cutting table.

  • Load and interpret CAD files or other design inputs into the machine’s control interface.

  • Adjust machine settings like power, speed, and focus based on material type and thickness.

  • Operate the machine to cut or engrave as per the design, ensuring accuracy and precision.

  • Regularly inspect cut or engraved components to verify they meet the specified dimensions and quality standards.

  • Make necessary machine adjustments to maintain consistent product quality.

  • Conduct daily checks to ensure the laser cutter is in optimal working condition.

  • Clean the machine, including laser lens and nozzle, to prevent build-ups or obstructions.

  • Schedule and perform routine maintenance tasks, such as lens replacement or alignment checks.

  • Ensure the laser safety barrier or enclosure is intact and functional.

  • Monitor the fume extraction system to ensure proper ventilation and filtration.

  • Keep track of material usage to minimize waste.

  • Handle materials carefully to prevent damage or warping.

  • Keep logs of completed jobs, including deviations or issues.

  • Document maintenance activities and any significant machine downtimes.

  • Troubleshoot minor machine issues or operational errors.

  • Adjust parameters based on material properties to achieve desired results.

  • Understands how to manage daily work expectations and goals.

  • Follows all safety policies and standards.

  • Capable and willing to train other employees.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

    WHAT YOU’LL BRING OR WE’D LIKE TO SEE:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.

  • Over two years’ experience operating CO2 or Fiber CNC laser-cutting machines. Cincinnati or Mitsubishi, preferred.

  • Understanding of flat print drawings

  • Forklift experience.

  • Thorough understanding of CNC processes.

  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.

  • The individual must have exposure to metal fabrication concepts and processes.

  • Must possess the ability to operate overhead cranes, tape measure, caliper, basic hand tools and air tools.

  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds with an assist.
