YMCA of Greater Seattle Youth Soccer Instructor (Shoreline, WA) in Seattle, Washington

Overview

*This is an On-site, Part-Time, Seasonal position for Spring 2024.

Grade 12 Hiring Range: $20/hr. - $22/hr.

Job Location: Shoreline, Washington

Shift Information: This is a part-time role that supports our Soccer for Success program at local elementary schools in Shoreline, WA (Echo Lake Elementary and Parkwood Elementary). Shifts occur in the afternoon after school releases for approx. 2 hours.

Job Summary

Instruct a variety of sports, recreation, wellness and enrichment programs for youth. Create a safe, enjoyable, positive and inclusive environment that welcomes participants of all skill and ability levels. Provide a quality experience to participants and families.

Responsibilities

What you'll be doing

  1. Instructs programs as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines.

  2. May assist in the development of programming

  3. Follow YMCA policies and procedures including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures

  4. Increase participant awareness of whole person health.

  5. Sets up and takes down class equipment. Reports any equipment needs to supervisor.

  6. Accurately maintains related records.

  7. Conveys basic information on YMCA programs and schedules to members and, as appropriate, refers members to other YMCA programs and/or staff.

  8. Attends staff meetings and approved trainings as required.

  9. Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Qualifications

What we're looking for in an applicant

  1. At least 18 years of age or older.

  2. Six months or more previous experience working with children; camps, child care, tutoring, nanny, coaching.

  3. Current state approved first-aid certification*

  4. Current state approved community CPR certification*

  5. Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.

*Within 90 days of start date

If applicable, "Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered."

Preferred Education/Experience

  1. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
