This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As a Vision-Based Navigation Hardware Architect, you will directly contribute to the development of autonomous onboard navigation software for our crewed and un-crewed lunar vehicles. The products developed provide Lunar Permanence lander vehicles with software to enable unprecedented crew and mass-to-surface capabilities. You will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedication and attention toward safe and reliable spaceflight. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Permanence system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth. We are looking for our engineers to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Developing hardware, firmware, and software product solutions to contribute towards embedded vision-based navigation baselines and next generation vehicle designs. Support in the development and benchmarking of efficient embedded algorithms, flight critical software and models for autonomous perception, localization and mapping, and software to support vehicle navigationin FPGA, CPU and GPU based hardware platforms. Develop solutions to interface with state-of-the-art sensors and telemetry managementincluding the deployment of embedded software, including optical sensor I/O. Collaborate on the implementation of the processor-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, and hardware-in-the-loop testing, on-vehicle functional testing, and flight-testingfor multiple vehicle programs. Provide input and direction on next generation vision navigation hardware and software solutions as road mapping development efforts for future programs. Minimum Qualifications B.S. or M.S. or equivalent in computer science, aerospace engineering, or related technical field with 10+ years of proven experience. Strong software design and development skills with emphasis in C++ and Simulink/MATLAB. Including skills in debugging and performance optimization Experience with the integration of data from various optical sensors such as LiDAR or cameras Familiarity with sensor fusion techniques and the implementation of embedded perception or computer vision algorithms for navigation Experience with build systems, version control, and testing methodologies Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. or equivalent in computer science, aerospace engineering, or related technical field with 15+ years of proven experience.
