UW Information Technology (UW-IT) is the central information technology organization for the University of Washington, responsible for strategic planning, oversight, and direction of the UW’s IT infrastructure, resources, and services. UW-IT provides critical technology support to all three campuses, UW Medicine, and research operations around the world, partnering with the UW community to enable innovation, learning, discovery, and service."

The Project Management Office (PMO) oversees UW-IT’s project portfolio to ensure that the overall collection of projects is aligned with the University’s mission and strategic goals; and provides consultation and expert project management support for high-priority projects.

The Technology Project Manager in UW-IT’s PMO is responsible for:

Project Management: This role will be responsible for project managing and bringing to a successful closure a broad range of high-profile, complex projects at the University of Washington and its affiliated organizations. This position utilizes a broad spectrum of skills which include IT knowledge (networking, telecommunications, data center, cloud-based computing, security), business process analysis, problem solving, public relations, contract negotiation, cost structuring, financial management / budgeting and extensive project management skills. The position purview includes all units within UW-IT, ensuring that staff and management apply relevant project management practices. This position uses the tools, techniques, and processes provided by global project management standards and guides. Leadership: This role will provide coaching, mentorship and training for other project managers designated at the UW as adjunct and embedded project managers and those interested in project management as a skill and/or career path.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or experience

  • Minimum of four years of experience managing progressively more complex IT projects in applications, infrastructure and networking, and comprehensive understanding of the underlying technologies.

  • Demonstrated project management skills.

  • Experience with enterprise application development, SDLC processes, re-engineering and process improvement involving broad-based information systems and utilizing tools and techniques to effect business change.

  • Experience in deploying large, complex systems implementing business process redesign.

  • Experience in project and software development lifecycles and corresponding tools such as issue tracking systems, configuration management systems, requirements management systems and project management systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage large technical projects within a team environment.

  • Ability to manage a diverse range of activities in a very visible and pressured environment, exercising independent judgment in resolving problems.

  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills, technical documentation skills, communication skills, and personal interaction abilities.

  • Ability to speak and write about technical and non-technical issues for both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Expertise with web publishing, collaboration, database, spreadsheet and word processing applications.

  • Experience communicating with senior leadership and management through all project processes, during priority setting, and providing project status. DESIRED:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

  • Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt certification

  • Knowledge of ITIL framework

  • Experience in a research university or large enterprise

  • Experience implementing IT governance process
