Job Description:

The Sound Design Organization is a centralized team that touches nearly every product that our company produces. We collaborate with product and creative teams across the company to design audio for video, post-production audio, final mixing and mastering, audio field recording, sound effects, and large scale content projects across a wide range of software and hardware, including but not limited to your phone, glasses, VR headsets a mix of AR/MR across these devices. We're a team of over 60 audio experts who design the experiences that connect people through the power of sound.

Sound Design is looking for an experienced Technical Sound Designer to join our sound design team. As a Technical Sound Designer, you must have a passion for sound, a demonstrated history of innovative work with sound and technology, and a proficiency with technical implementation, including scripting. Candidates must also have the ability to collaborate closely with other team members and product teams, as well as provide creative feedback, strong communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Design sound for prototypes and new product experiences

  • Develop sound concepts from a script or project description

  • Write code and use visual scripting (patches) to add sound behavior to interactive projects

  • Use digital signal processing (DSP) to process sound for voice audio and musical applications

  • Implement custom sounds for various products on a variety of platforms, using different programming languages.

  • Collaborate closely with all partners to determine scope of work, planning and execution of sound design and implementation

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with AR/VR/MR design tools (Spark, Snap Studio, Horizon Worlds)

  • Experience with audio middleware (Wwise, FMOD)

  • Experience with coding and/or scripting (JavaScript, C#, Python, etc.)

  • Experience with technical sound design and implementation.

  • Troubleshooting and problem solving skills

  • An understanding of how sound works alongside other elements, including set, lighting, moving image, or an interactive virtual world

  • Ability to research and pitch ideas to senior colleagues

  • Time-management and organizational skills to meet delivery specifications and deadlines

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with game engines (Unity, Unreal).

  • Ability to record in a studio and on location

  • Post-production skills, including editing and mastering

  • Knowledge of acoustics, equipment set ups and calibration

  • Ability to mix in a variety of formats, including spatial audio

  • Video editing skills (Premier Pro, Final Cut, Avid, etc).

  • Audio integration experience, specific to hardware with custom speaker sets.
