Job Information

Amazon Sr. Technical Program Manager, Event Outfitters in Seattle, Washington

Description

Every week, thousands of AWS Solutions Architects (SAs) run interactive engagements with customers, helping them understand AWS Services through exploration in a safe, controlled way. These events build customer confidence in AWS Services, and help them understand how those services help solve their business and technical problems.

Our team builds and operates the products that power these engagements, allowing SAs to focus on delivering effective, high-quality events for customers. We are looking for an experienced Technical Program Manager (TPM) to join the team, working with our Product Manager and Software Development Managers. The TPM sits at the intersection of engineering, product management, operations, and customer-facing interactions.

You will work with our customers to understand how they use our products, create prescriptive guidance and best-practices, and to understand where our gaps are and what problems we need to solve. You will be a prominent voice of the customer back into the team, bringing both data and anecdotes to create shared understanding and drive prioritization.

You will work closely with other teams: AWS Service teams, Event Marketing, Legal, Security, and other stakeholders. You’ll ensure our products support new AWS service and feature releases, and can effectively deliver hundreds of sessions for tens-of-thousands of customers at the largest customer-facing AWS events.

You’ll work with our engineering teams and engineering leadership, identifying opportunities for optimization and making their work faster and more efficient through standards and repeatable mechanisms. You’ll help teams make the right architecture trade-offs, identify and manage risks and issues, and uphold the quality bar.

You will be analytical, resourceful, customer-focused, team oriented, and will have the ability to work independently under time constraints to meet deadlines.

Key job responsibilities

  • Represent our team when working and collaborating with other teams and organizations

  • Manage cross-team dependencies, risks, and tradeoffs against developer experience and time to market

  • Drive engineering and integration decisions and timelines across multiple teams and organizations

  • Establish metrics and indicators for business success and high quality technical deliveries

  • Communicate regularly with senior management on status, risks and change control

  • Proactively identify and resolve strategic issues that may impair the team’s ability to meet business goals

  • Drive continual improvement in software development practices and processes with a view to scaling the team in the coming years.

  • Manage ambiguity: Understand complex business processes involving multiple business units, geographies and product lines, and identify improvements that make our customers’ experiences better.

  • Deliver results: Design metrics, collect and analyze data to demonstrate impact, and make recommendations and present results to senior management.

  • Stakeholder management: Build strong relations with stakeholders to understand priorities, and collaborate on work with them.

A day in the life

In a typical day, our TPM might help Solutions Architects who have questions on how to create or run events using our tools. Identifying themes from customer needs and feedback, they might update our product documentation or collaborate with the Product Manager to create a product feature request.

They might work with an AWS Service Team on supportability of an upcoming product feature, providing advice and guidance on how our products can support new launches. They may with the Event Marketing team on planning and executing a large Marketing event, or attend an engineering sprint exercise, refining specific stories to be delivered as part of that sprint.

About the team

Our team builds and operates the products that power interactive customer engagements: Workshops, ImmersionDays, Activation Days, Builders' Sessions, Hackathons, and others. We ensure these events are high-quality, secure, and effective.

Our systems deliver hundreds of events for tens of thousands of customer individuals each week, helping them understand AWS Services through exploration in a safe, controlled way. These events build customer confidence in AWS Services, and help them understand how those services help solve their business and technical problems.
