The AWS Transactional Services team is building distributed systems and database technologies that offer innovative solutions to this growth. Our customers are a range of AWS services, each of them looking for technology solutions that help them to meet their customer needs.

We are seeking a Software Development Manager to lead the Control Plane team of an in-house distributed database system that serves some of the most demanding needs of AWS services. This system stands as a pioneering example in the realm of databases, having introduced concepts that are now considered cutting-edge innovations within the field. The team behind this system remains committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation, demonstrating an ongoing dedication to advancing the field of databases. In this role you will continue to innovate for Amazon and support AWS’ ever-increasing needs and scale.

As a Software Development Manager for the Control Plane team, you will be responsible for leading a group of talented engineers in the ongoing mission to empower the product to maintain its high availability, manageability and customer experience. We grow with our customers, and you will be leading to make that a reality. A successful candidate is experienced in leading a team of deeply technical engineers. You, the candidate, must have proven skills as a leader that delivers on business objectives, prioritizes work, and collaborate with partner teams. You will establish goals for your team and focus attention on the most important inputs to drive the desired business outcomes. You know how to grow the team by hiring, investing in people, and developing talent from within. Transactional Services operates at large scale and enables customers to build high availability systems world-wide, so a passion and discipline around operational excellence is key.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in managing engineers.

  • 5+ years of software development experience

  • Experience working with production systems, with understanding how to architect and manage them

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with technical teams and leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.

  • Experience in hiring and mentoring/coaching engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
