Amazon Software Development Manager, Customer Segmentation in Seattle, Washington

Description

Understanding our customer's current intent and long term propensities powers majority of customer marketing in Amazon.

The Customer Segmentation team develops and owns the systems that track and vend customer behaviors, manage customer segments and provide targeting for online experiences with strict latency requirements and Amazon-website scale throughput. We are a core system which supports over 300 Amazon teams to deliver customer facing features across Amazon websites, apps, and other experiences (e.g. Alexa).

As a Software Development Manager on the Customer Segmentation team, you’ll provide strategic and tactical direction to a team of 6+ software developers and Data Engineers. Your responsibilities include meeting with customers and stakeholders to understand their needs and requirements, mentoring, recruiting, building rapport and consensus within the team, identifying new business initiatives, defining annual roadmaps, prioritizing workload, driving execution of team deliverables and reporting status to senior management. You’ll also need to stay up to date with the current state of the art in distributed systems, data processing, caching, and machine learning.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience managing a multi-discipline team including both software engineers and data engineers.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
