Amazon Software Development Manager, AWS Security in Seattle, Washington
Description
This role is located in Seattle, WA. Are you a technology leader and innovator interested in owning business critical services at AWS? We have an opportunity for a Software Development Manager in the AWS Security, Amazon Foundational Security Services (AFSS) organization, and are looking for a leader who is ready to transform AWS’s identity management landscape.
Each day, hundreds of thousands of developers make billions of transactions worldwide on our cloud. They harness the power of Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enable innovative applications, websites, and businesses. The AWS Security team owns security for all of these services offered by AWS, including EC2, S3, and many others.
Our team works with the numerous Amazon groups to solve security challenges at massive scale relating to identity and access management. We enable trust by building internal services that meet the security goals of our customers, from compliance to analysis. We dive deep into security technologies such as new authentication systems, hardware security components, cryptography, system hardening, and massive-scale audit analysis.
Our team is looking for a highly curious software and systems professionals to join us and help us continue to raise the security bar for cloud computing. You should be somebody who enjoys working on complex system software, is customer-centric, and feels strongly about delivering results. You should be passionate about solving security hurdles in innovative ways. We do not desire to simply produce good software here at AWS Security, we want to produce disruptive, history changing innovations.
Amazon has a fast-paced environment where we “Work Hard, Have Fun, Make History.” A typical day on our team involves working with users to design new security features, prototyping and demonstrating features to your users, deploying software through our large automated systems, and operationally supporting newly deployed software. What you will do:
In this role, you will own key technologies in the AWS ecosystem. You and your team will work closely with customers across AWS providing strategic services that raise the bar for identity management, security, and integration. You will be joining a group of technology leaders that are determined to delight our customers while driving AWS forward. You will integrate with AWS products; you will help evaluate new AWS offerings; and you will build new capabilities. You will lead a full-stack development team - services and API’s to provide end users a seamless experience. You will build for a global audience, delivering secure, highly scalable, highly available services for all of your customers. As a Software Development Manager you will:
Lead a team to build and rollout systems to multiple global regions
Have end-to-end ownership of major engineering projects within Enterprise Identity
Build Infrastructure as Code and DevOps tooling
Create processes that can be leveraged to help drive efficiencies and quality
Work closely with our internal customers to enable their goals and meet their demands
Work on new designs/solutions, bringing them from concept to launch and operations
Create and update our infrastructure and security standards and ensure that the systems adheres these standards
Review and implement changes on the systems utilizing thorough test plans
Lead efforts to drive automation
Drive operational excellence for your systems
Work with a wide range of technologies
Work on a variety of hardware platforms across multiple vendors
Our ideal candidate is highly autonomous leader who possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, strong project management and time management skills, and has a successful track record of delivering large-scale engineering projects. Basic Qualifications
3+ years of engineering team management experience
7+ years of engineering experience
8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
