We have a great opportunity for a Software Development Engineer to join our team and reimagine what world class developer tools can be built to drive the next set of capabilities on Alexa. We are looking for passionate, hard-working, and talented Software Development Engineer focused on building scalable, low latency Alexa services that integrate with Amazon Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) systems. You will have an enormous opportunity to make a large impact on the Alexa Business through cross-functional designs, working with partner teams on system architecture, and driving implementation of cutting edge developer tools and services that set a new standard in the Large Language model space.

Key job responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of key system features that support LLM based experiences.

  • Will work with other team members to collaborate and align on design approaches, prototype new technology and evaluate technical feasibility.

  • Own development in multiple layers of the stack including distributed workflows hosted in native AWS architecture

  • Will work in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high quality software against aggressive schedules.

  • Operational rigor for a rapidly growing tech stack

  • Measure success metrics and influence evolution of the tech product

A day in the life

A typical day begins with a morning huddle to review the team's progress from the previous day. This is often followed by collaborative design discussions, focusing on the challenges the team is tackling. The afternoon is primarily dedicated to project design and implementation tasks, with frequent code reviews among team members. We foster a supportive and cohesive team environment, where everyone is willing to pitch in, push boundaries, and enjoy the process together!

Alexa Skills Kit or ASK is an organization within Alexa on a mission to empower skill builders to create delightful and engaging experiences by making Alexa more natural, accurate, conversational, and personalized. Skills are like apps for Alexa and provide a new channel for your content and services. Skills let customers use their voices to perform everyday tasks like checking the news, listening to music, playing a game, and more. Organizations and individuals can publish skills in the Alexa Skills Store to reach and delight customers on hundreds of millions of Alexa devices.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
