Blue Origin LLC Senior Systems Engineer - New Shepard Software in Seattle, Washington

New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line - the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space. As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists and engineers, you will develop and manage systems engineering processes, standards and tools for the New Shepard software and avionics system. You must have a passion for the development of safety critical and mission critical software systems and a strong capacity to work on complex and exciting new problems. This position requires close collaboration with software engineers, systems engineers, and Safety and Mission Assurance across multiple teams. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Responsibilities Implement and maintain systems engineering processes for software and avionics on New Shepard while continuously looking for improvement opportunities. Find opportunities for adopting new tools and propose, plan, and help execution of internal development of tools. Train and mentor engineers on the processes and standards that you maintain. Work with system, software, and avionics engineers to identify and verify compliance of software with system requirements. Evaluate and perform reviews of software artifacts. Evaluate compliance with software development assurance standards. Participate in actively maintaining a healthy safety culture. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of a B.S degree in Computer Sciences, Aerospace Engineering or related field. 8+ years proven engineering experience in the aerospace industry with 4+ years software development. Strong system safety and mission assurance fundamentals. Experience interpreting and assessing compliance to software standards (e.g. RTCA DO-178, DO-278). Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to identify problems, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to our inclusive culture. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
