Amazon Payroll Tax Manager, North America in Seattle, Washington

Description

Amazon is looking for a results driven Payroll Tax Program Manager to help guide Amazon through the complex North American Payroll tax world. You’ll be given the opportunity to really make a difference to our business with ownership and accountability for all North American (primarily US & Canada) payroll related tax matters. We’re looking for a candidate with audit experience, problem solving skills, payroll tax knowledge, big data analysis, and strong writing skills.

This position has high visibility within the organization. You will work with many departments to ensure Payroll is, at a minimum, meeting their tax obligations. You will work with various senior stakeholders from HR, Corporate Tax, Accounting and Finance to respond to audits and identify risk areas required for monitoring. You will also be responsible for discovering, advising and measuring risks. The focus of the role is to mitigate risk and ensure Amazon maintains an outstanding reputation in the NA payroll tax space. This is a high profile area within Amazon that requires a program manager with the ability to identify and prioritize business critical risks.

This position will report through Amazon Global Finance Operations.

Key job responsibilities

• Accountability of US & Canada payroll specific tax processes from beginning to end

• Own resolution of federal, state and local notices

• Handle federal, state and local audits

• Review internal and external audit reports providing remediation plans and working with stakeholders to close identified risks and issues

• Act as project lead on corporate tax initiatives

• Manage / facilitate self-inspections and exploratory sessions for operational payroll tax processes and statutory tax requirements.

• Review support analysis for state and federal audits with multiple stakeholders

• Conduct regular meetings with relevant departments, including Tax, Accounting, HR and Global Mobility and support in relevant tax related issues.

• Build partnerships with External Consultants to leverage gain expertise when prudent

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience

  • Experience in Excel (macros, index, conditional list, arrays, pivots, lookups)

  • Report writing experience within ADP, PeopleSoft, or other report writing software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience delivering forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis, and data interpretation of results

  • MBA, or Bachelor's degree

  • Experience writing persuasive written documents and negotiation experience.

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.

  • Experience of working in a global metric driven company, working across multiple time zones and possessing high cultural awareness.

  • Background in payroll processing or payroll tax

  • Experience with technical auditing techniques and process improvements

  • Advanced analytical skills and the ability to dive deep into details, while also seeing and understanding the big picture

  • Ability to successful manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $81,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $179,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
