Northwest Center Payroll Specialist in Seattle, Washington

Northwest Center is looking for a Temporary Payroll Specialist.

Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the *Payroll Specialist *assumes responsibility for the accurate preparation and processing of payroll for approximately 900 employees bi-weekly. This position is responsible for the management of all payroll accounts, associated records, payroll reporting, and taxes. 

Location: *Renton, WA *Schedule: *Monday - Friday; 8 am - 5 pm *Wage: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour

This is a temporary six-month assignment.

 

Job Duties:

 

Payroll Processing:

  • Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll, including manual payroll checks as required
  • Audit employee timesheets for manager approval and accuracy
  • Manage all payroll transactions to ensure they are processed accurately and timely
  • Coordinate with Human Resources to review and enter garnishments, reimbursements, and other earnings/deductions
  • Adhere to all state and federal regulations for payroll processing
  • Resolve discrepancies surrounding payroll issues
  • Report problems and updates

Compliance and Reports:

  • Research state requirement for payroll-related deductions and taxes, including withholding, unemployment, and workers compensation
  • Process accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting
  • Compile and submit payroll deductions related to check requests and payments
  • Reconcile and post all payroll data to the correct accounting period for tax and general ledger purposes
  • Report labor distributions to department managers
  • Monthly processing of Certified Payroll reports
  • Prepare annual W-2 and 1095 reporting
  • Prepare monthly reporting and annual audits for workers' compensation vendors not covered by WA L&I

Requirements:

  • Associate degree Required; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum of five years payroll processing experience and formal payroll training
  • Comprehensive understanding of State and Federal payroll regulations and experience with several state and city tax systems, including online portals
  • Relevant experience working in a multiple company, multi-division or multi-department environment
  • Proficient with hands-on detail level experience with complex payroll issues
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills include but are not limited to a positive attitude, strong listening skills, and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with advanced Excel functions
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred
  • Knowledge of working with Paycom or outsourced service provider preferred
