This role is a part of New Shepard, a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line, the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space. Description: As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will be the first line of support developing integrated technical solutions with the next generation of ground software capabilities. A significant part of this role will be developing the interplay definition of the software products that will operate for the next generation of New Shepard to enable a scalable, maintainable, and high cadence ground system. The New Shepard Ground System Software Integrator will be responsible for coordinating all technical aspects of software including network, IGS, ICE, EGSE/RF, and ground autonomy aspects working together with the New Shepard Software team. The job will be based in Kent with routine travel to the launch site in Texas. Additional responsibilities may be assigned depending on individual experience and qualifications. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment to and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable human spaceflight. Responsibilities: Ensure integrated software system behaviors and properties meet program objectives Define and document software and system interfaces Ensure separate development projects will technically integrate when phased over time Develop approaches for integrating, validating, and verifying ground software developed under individual projects Strategize technical solutions which encompasses both Hardware and Software as a system by engaging the software and hardware teams Work with the software and configuration management teams to streamline re-occurring software change and configuration management processes. Coordinate with flight control software and system engineers to plan, develop, and lead system verification and qualification, to ensure that mission systems products meet system requirements and safety-critical standards. Development of rapid prototypes for conceptual and technical demonstrations Coordinate timing and content of software and network updates for flight and ground systems in cooperation with vehicle/ground managers and system operators. Lead and participate in software and network change review and scope definition discussions to evaluate operational impacts. Own and maintain software-specific operation procedures and user interfaces. Provide direct front-line software and network technical support as needed. Work with engineering teams to resolve critical software or network anomalies and discrepancies. Provide operational feedback on software performance to the engineering teams as part of post-flight reviews. Qualifications: Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or equivalent experience. Strong coordination and project management skills. Must be able to track, manage and prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks and jobs. 10+ years of experience managing, writing, and testing software, preferably in an operational environment. Familiarity with python and C++ and/or PLC coding and industrial control system software and/or TCP/IP networking concepts. A proven track record of working successfully with multiple disciplines, and the ability to evaluate technical recommendations from subject matter experts in a wide range of disciplines.
