Business Unit Introduction - Lunar Transportation: This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As a Lunar Mechanisms Manager, you will be accountable for the technical performance, flight certification, and hardware delivery of all components in a specific subsystem for the Lunar Permanence portfolio of lunar lander vehicles. You will be responsible for managing a diverse product team to perform spaceflight mechanism design, analysis, hardware manufacturing and procurement, instrumentation, testing, assembly, and product delivery to meet aggressive mass targets and schedule milestones within an acceptable risk posture. You will additionally be responsible for managing the career development, work performance, mentorship, and career and technical guidance for all members of your product team. Special Mentions Relocation provided Occasional travel required Interviews will include a technical assessment Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Responsible for directing a technical team to design, analyze, test, and deliver mass efficient mechanisms that meets mission objectives, satisfies requirements, and complies with intra-vehicle interfaces. Recruit, hire, manage, and mentor a diverse, equitable, and inclusive team Manage your direct reports' professional development (e.g., hiring, performance reviews, compensation and promotion management, routine one-on-one development conversations) and coach them on performance. Develop technical plans to meet deliverables on an aggressive schedule Develop hardware verification and certification plans to develop safe and reliable hardware with sufficient documentation Perform technical leadership and make data-informed executive decisions on mechanisms-related topics across the vehicle portfolio Coordinate between vehicles and support organizations to ensure consistent design and analysis practices are being utilized where feasible Identify and execute key areas to perform hardware prototyping and testing to fail fast and early Lead mechanisms hardware reviews Utilize good engineering to ensure the most efficient and effective product is designed, manufactured, procured, tested, qualified, and delivered Embody, promote, and coach the Blue Origin leadership principles Minimum Qualifications B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, other) or equivalent Experience in managing flight hardware products from cradle to grave Experience in creating statements of work, hardware specifications, and managing subcontracts Experience in fundamental, hand calculation, structural analysis, and finite element analysis techniques Experience in metallic materials Experience in mechanical system model creation Experience in mechanical system design and design for manufacturability Experience with electromechanical actuators, motors, and controllers Experience in hardware testing and instrumentation Experience in documentation, design, and analysis artifact configuration control Experience leading multidisciplinary development projects, including managing requirements, priorities, scope, schedule, and cost Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion Excellent written and oral
