This role is a part of New Shepard, a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line - the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space. As part of a diverse and hardworking team of specialists, you will define, integrate, commission, and provide ongoing support for all launch systems support (LSS) equipment required to enable processing, launch, and recovery of reusable flight vehicles. This is a hands-on position focused on communications, video, audio, instrumentation/data system devices and similar systems used in launch day operations and major integrated ground testing. This person will work closely with systems engineers, electronics engineers, launch facility engineers, network engineers, ground maintenance teams, and the flight operations team to ensure LSS equipment meets stakeholder requirements. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Responsibilities: Develop system requirements, performing flow down, and verification Lead design, analysis, and development of complex interrelating electrical ground support equipment, harnesses, and testing equipment Support configuration development and trade studies Build and maintain interface definition and control documents Create and maintain drawings, specifications and other documentation per established configuration management policy and standard methodologies Plan and conduct Launch Support Systems (LSS) activation/verification tests and review data Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget and technical status Perform technical peer reviews for ground system avionics/electrical ground support equipment and assist other specialists as a Launch Support Systems subject matter expert Oversee LSS system integration and maintenance, to include procuring components and materials and monitoring vendor/ subcontractor performance Find opportunities for safety improvements and operational cost savings Communicate and implement mission assurance principles throughout the organization Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering (computer, electrical, software or avionics) 3+ years' experience with complex communication, data, or electrical systems design, operation, and maintenance Experience working in small- to medium-sized teams integrating multiple subsystems to meet a top level system requirement Strong safety mentality and experience, including hands-on experience planning and conducting hazardous or critical operations Excellent project management skills This position is based either in our West Texas Launch Site One facility or in our Kent WA HQ. For Kent based position, 25-30% travel to the launch site will be required.
