Successfully performs work as an individual, as a member of a single craft, or a multi-craft work crew. Performs work with minimal supervision. Complies with craft and shipyard safety and environmental measures. Performs transportation, cleaning, and fire watch duties supporting shipyard projects. Responsible for the maintenance and minor on-the-job repairs of all tools associated with the Laborers craft, i.e., needle guns, rattlers, etc. Performs general cleaning of the following: vessel, dock, sea valves, sea chest, chain locker and chains fore and aft peaks, void tanks, feed water tanks, aux. and main condenser, D.C. heater, portable air receiver, etc. Responsible for pump and hose set ups and maintenance. Responsible for chemical set up and application by hand or spray. Responsible for knowing the proper procedures for the mucking out of tanks and bilge's and for the pressure washing of tanks and bilges. Cleans for a gas free work area in way of hot work. Works in a team environment. Responsible for boiler and/or stack set up, pressure washing or steam cleaning. Properly cares for and safely uses hand and power tools and all company property. Flushing skills Skilled in tanks and pumping ESSENTIAL SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Incumbent performs similar work in all areas of the Yard as the need arises. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Communicates effectively. Ability to do basic math, i.e. add, subtract, divide and multiply. Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English. Recognize and resolve unsafe working conditions. Ability to set up and monitor the operation of service pumps, i.e., keeping a pump from freezing, etc. Familiarity with the general layout of a vessel and its tanks, spaces, and other compartments. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or GED preferred. 3 years relevant work experience. Proven skills, work history and/or applicable education will be considered in lieu of work experience. Journey Level Support Demonstrated proficiency in 1 of the support groupings and knowledge of a core/main ship repair area (1 certification or equivalent) OR demonstrated proficiency of 2 support services areas. Requires some supervision to perform more complex jobs/tasks, but is able to perform majority of job duties independently, with minimal supervision. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS Four-hour fire watch certification; annual respirator certification HAZWOPER-First Response Awareness Level PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, Walking, Crouching, Kneeling/Crawling, Stooping, Twisting, Climbing, Balancing, Leg/Foot Use, Reaching, Extension, Handling/Grasping, Fingering/Feeling, Pushing/Pulling, and Lifting/Carrying.
