Blue Origin LLC Human Factors Engineer III in Seattle, Washington

Engineering and Program Management (EPM): This role is part of EPM, where we provide technical standards, tools, processes, training, and domain expertise for product engineering and manufacturing. EPM allows all Blue Origin business units to benefit from commonly used capabilities, hardware, and software and assists business units in identifying, selecting, and training engineers from both inside and outside the organization. As a member of the Human Integration team, you will support the development of Blue Origin's human-system interfaces. Your expertise will influence everything from New Glenn's ground team interfaces to the intricacies of Crew and Cargo Lunar missions and the unique experiences of New Shepard private astronaut flights. This role necessitates your dedication and attention to detail that is needed to ensure safe and repeatable spaceflight for commercial and government applications. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and an unwavering drive for excellence to cultivate the safety of human spaceflight. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Applying Human Factors methodologies to guide teams in creating designs that prioritize human needs and ergonomic principles. Writing, evaluating, and integrating human factors requirements into the design, along with developing verification plans to successfully meet these requirements. Assessing astronaut and ground crew interfaces within space systems to ensure their design is both efficient and effective. Providing ergonomic design support and advice to design teams. Minimum Qualifications Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space! Minimum of a B.S. in Engineering or a related technical field 5+ years of experience in human factors engineering or human-centered system design Experience developing and evaluating human interfaces (e.g., conducting task, human error, and/or worksite analyses; applying user interface standards to mission operator displays and flight design; conducting and analyzing the results of human-in-the-loop evaluations) A strong Systems Engineering background Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships Preferred Qualifications Master's or Ph.D. in a technical field related to human factors 8+ years of experience in Human Factors Engineering Hands-on operational experience within high-stakes, technologically demanding, and safety-focused environments Previous professional engagement with space agencies such as NASA. Proficiency in using digital human modeling tools for the creation and analysis of human interfaces (e.g., CATIA Human Builder, JACK, Extended Reality applications, etc.) A deep understanding of space physiology, astronaut psychology, and performance, to improve astronaut experiences and mission success. Knowledge in specialized areas such as anthropometry, strength, biomechanics, maintenance and assembly strategies, human-computer interaction, or piloting. Experience in influencing the design of user interfaces for space vehicles and supporting extravehicular activities and spacesuit operations.
