Amazon Data Engineer ll, Shipping and Delivery Support in Seattle, Washington

Description

Amazon’s expanding Logistics products and services (e.g. Amazon Logistics, Global Specialty Fulfillment, and Last Mile Technology) are creating new customer segments, including drivers, recipients, shippers, property managers, global sellers and storage owners. Shipping & Delivery Support (SDS) is a customer service organization dedicated to providing support for these new customer segments.

The Amazon Shipping and Delivery Support organization is looking for a highly analytical, organized self-starter to join Amazon as a Data Engineer on our team.

As a Data Engineer on the Shipping and Delivery Support team you will be working in one of the world's largest and most complex data warehouse environments. You should excel in the design, creation, management, and business use of extremely large datasets. You should have excellent business, technical and communication skills to be able to work with business owners to develop and define key business questions, and to build Machine Learning workflows, data pipelines, integration engineering and automation solutions that answer those questions. Above all you should be passionate about working with huge data sets and someone who loves to unlock the power to data to drive change.

This role requires an individual with excellent problem-solving skills, understanding of how Machine Learning models work, expertise in working with streaming data, deep knowledge of data pipeline engineering using next-gen AWS data technologies and an understanding of business intelligence solutions.

You will be responsible for designing and implementing deployment dependencies for Machine Learning models, including feature engineering, model hosting and integration mechanisms. You will also be responsible for designing and implementing complex ETL pipelines in data warehouse platform and other BI solutions to support the rapidly growing and dynamic business demand for data, and use it to deliver the data as a service which will have an immediate influence on day-to-day decision making at Amazon.

Key job responsibilities

  • You help build the infrastructure to answer questions with data, using software engineering best practices, data management fundamentals, data storage principles, and recent advances in distributed systems

  • You partner with Research Scientists and Software Development Engineers to evolve, optimize and integrate Machine Learning models into the broader Customer Service platform to drive and innovate contact experience for customers

  • You help drive the architecture and technology choices that enable a world-class user experience

  • You manage AWS resources

  • You uphold Operational Excellence best practices and actively contribute to evolve set standards.

  • You collaborate with Business Intelligence Engineers (BIEs) to recognize and help adopt best practices in reporting and analysis: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation

  • You develop expertise in a broad range of Amazon’s data resources and know when, how, and which to use and which not to use

  • You encourage the organization to adopt next-generation data architecture strategies, proposing both data flows and storage solutions

  • You are comfortable presenting your findings to large groups

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of data engineering experience

  • Experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby

  • Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets

  • Experience with AWS technologies like Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $205,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
