POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to an Operations Supervisor or Manager, the Level 2 Sorter is responsible for overseeing and performing various tasks/job duties related to the operations support and coordination throughout the recycling center, including but not limited to, inventory control, quality control and safety compliance.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sort and segregate recoverable materials (e.g.. aluminum, plastic, glass, paper, etc.) from incoming waste, or remove non-recyclable materials.

  • Deposit recoverable material safely and efficiently into appropriate chute.

  • Assist other sorters on an as-needed basis with heavy or bulky items.

  • Communicate with equipment operators regarding incoming loads of special waste or other loads that require special attention.

  • Increase production of the sort line by minimizing down time and providing training to sorters on the line.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety rules regarding the sort line; including stopping the conveyor belt in emergency situations.

  • Inspect and remove jams on the sort line.

  • Clean the automated sorting equipment on a daily basis, including screens, belly pans, and under the system, in addition to other light maintenance duties.

  • Maintain cleanliness of facility during shift and perform end of shift cleaning

  • Assist Maintenance Technicians during system repairs, as assigned.

  • Distinguish different types of recyclables (e.g., various types of plastic-PETE, HDPE; glass by color; aluminum from tin or bi-metal; paper-5 to 6 grads).

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Trained in Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.

  • Minimum of 6 months related experience in a recycling center.
