Ellis Medicine Unit Clerk in Schenectady, New York

Basic Function: Performs clerical functions necessary for the operation of a nursing unit under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Activities are related to providing assistance to customers (nursing staff, physicians, patients and families, etc.) including telecommunication, clerical and environmental duties. Education/Experience Requirements: High school graduate or equivalent thereof. Computer experience and previous background in healthcare or secretarial science highly desirable. Responsibilities: • Enter all physician orders in the computer, except medication orders. • Utilize effective verbal communication skills including use of telephone. • In collaboration with nurse manager, monitor supplies to ensure availability. • Maintain all medical records on the unit. • Coordinate all patient movement on and off the unit. • Fulfill routine tasks based on unit need. • Review and process Advanced Directive paperwork as indicated. • Provide input into efforts to continuously improve operation of the unit. • Adheres to the policies and procedures as outlined in the Exposure Control Manual regarding: Standard Precautions, Bloodborne Pathogen, Disposal of Needles, Syringes and Sharps, Cleanup Procedures for blood and body fluid spills, storage, handling and disposal of medical waste. Salary Range: $14.26-$18.89/hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
