SUMMARY

Develop, direct and coordinate safety objectives for Trucking Operation and Fleet Maintenance. Oversee all facets of driver training, accident review, and general safety management practices. Maintain skills and knowledge with respect to interpreting and maintaining Federal Motor Carrier Regulations, State DOT & DMV Regulations, Federal & Sate OSHA Regulations, Federal EPA, and State DEC Regulations. Acts as the company representative to industry related business partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Ensure that all federal and State DOT regulations are met or exceeded regarding trucking and vehicle safety. Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies. Work with Compliance Supervisor to ensure all levels of validation and certification and compliance required are maintained within all states of operations and the Federal DOT. Handle all accident investigations. Report to the scene as needed. Gather all facts and contributing factors related to accidents involving any of our road vehicles and develop a plan to prevent a re-occurrence. Coordinate with insurance and legal departments on claims and litigation. Administer the mandatory DOT random drug / alcohol process. Act as the facilitator for the Transportation Safety Review Committee. Oversee all training through changes in state or federal DOT regulations. Responsible for validation & training of new associates hired into driving ranks. Perform random inspections in conjunction with the Fleet Maintenance Manager of all tractors and trailers assigned to the fleet. Be a resource for identifying hazards or restrictions along driving routes. Monitor and evaluate department safety performance. Coaching opportunities and rewarding accomplishments. Work closely with the Staffing Supervisor, Compliance Supervisor, & Dispatch Supervisors to promote successful recruitment, training, & retention. Review new hire driving tests results, experience and knowledge. Determine appropriate level of training required. Conduct driver safety & training courses for corporate drivers as needed. Report to the Director of Transportation and the General Manager of Transportation the detail of all road and yard accidents. Recommend, develop, and implement any training or procedural changes necessary to avoid any future situations. Monitor and maintain all transportation safety computer systems, analytics, KPIs, using data to drive change. Develop and implement strategies to reduce accidents and incidents. Hold all teammates accountable for company safety policies, procedures and best practices while performing tasks in a manner that promotes safety at all times. Recognize teammates that consistently meet safety objectives. Acts as the company representative to the Trucking Association of NY as well as other industry related business memberships and relationships. Promotes, plans, and administers the company’s annual Truck Driving Rodeo. Promotes and facilitates state and national competition for company drivers (if qualified). Perform other related duties as assigned by management and adhere to all company policies and procedures. Be available 24/7 to respond to safety issues. Previous CDL driving experience preferred. Schedule requirement: 24-hour flexible schedule.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Maintain any and all levels of validation and certification required within the states of operations and the Federal DOT.

Working knowledge of all OSHA regulations.

Satisfactory performance reviews.

Strong communication skills, including the ability to effectively convey information both verbally and in writing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree with 2 years minimum experience preferred.

10+ Years experience in Safety and/or trucking related field preferred.

10+ Years experience holding a CDL-A License with Doubles/Triples Endorsement preferred.

The disclosed compensation range for this position is applicable within the state the position resides. The actual base pay offered will consider internal equity and may also vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. The compensation range is one component of Price Chopper/Market 32 and Northeast Shared Services’ total compensation and benefits package, which includes, 401(k), 401(k) match, paid time off, comprehensive health benefits, and more.
