Art Collections & Exhibitions Department Student Assistant

Pay Status and Classification:Non-exempt, temporary, part-time

Supervisor:Collections Manager/Registrar

Start Date: This position is estimated to start on or after June 22nd.

Position Purpose: Assist with cataloging and new acquisitions and creating records in collections management database system

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Cataloguing New Acquisitions: Learns new acquisitions cataloguing processes, including photographing art, condition reporting, and art handling. Learns how to input data and images for artworks using the collection management systemCollector Systems. (https://www.collectorsystems.com/) Works independently with other students to wrap artworks in archival materials for storage and transport

  • Permanent Collection: Performs location inventories and condition reports for artworks installed on campus. Installs/deinstalls UCPC artworks on campus. Artwork wrapping, labeling, and transporting around campus. Inputs artwork locations into a spreadsheet or the collections management system. Carefully handles artworks during wrapping, moving, and storing processes.

Qualifications:

  • Attention to detail and the ability to accurately label artwork with inventory numbers, artist, and title information, as well as input in spreadsheets and database formats.

  • Proficiency with Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel.

  • Exercise great care in handling fragile art objects.

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.

  • Ability to stand or sit for 3 hours at a time.

  • Ability to lift and carry 20 lbs.

Compensation

The rate for this position is $15.00 per hour. Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
