Position Description

The Process Safety Engineer will be based at Elba Island in Savannah Georgia where Kinder Morgan operates an LNG import/export terminal and liquefaction facilities. This position will report to the Engineering Supervisor and will interact closely with the Compliance, Maintenance, and Operations groups as well. This position is responsible for activities relevant to the process safety of facilities for gas treatment, liquefaction, regasification, and ship loading/unloading at the LNG terminal. The role will include ownership of facility Process Safety Information, primary ownership of the MOC process, working with operations personnel and other engineers on all aspects of the process including instrumentation, control schemes, cause and effects, isolation plans, and incident investigations.

Essential duties and responsibilities: Advocate / provide leadership for process safety at the LNG terminal Remain current on applicable codes and standards (49 CFR 193, NFPA 59A, etc.) Manage process safety framework including the implementation of elements that improve process safety maturity and value within Kinder Morgan Operate as a technical leader that ensures alignment with industry best practices and Kinder Morgan practices relating to process safety and risk management Identify, maintain, and implement industry engineering practices and standards with respect to formal process safety assessment techniques that are fit for purpose for Kinder Morgan. Utilize process engineering fundamentals to maintain a safe operating facility, as well as contribute to commissioning and start-up of new equipment Design, implementation and continuous improvement of all process safety and risk management systems. Tracking and evaluation of process safety metrics. Responsible for updating, maintaining, and auditing process safety standards and procedures. Ownership of PHA / HAZOP reviews, LOPA analysis, SIL analysis, PSSR checklists, etc Review process safety aspects of initiatives to improve efficiency, debottleneck equipment, etc. Provide process safety input for PandID development associated with plant changes and projects Independently lead process safety incident/near miss investigations to determine root cause of undesired condition/outcome Assist in developing and delivering process safety related training for operations and maintenance personnel Interact with Regulatory representatives during sites visits and audits Develop and present on relevant topics at monthly safety meetings

Position Requirements

Minimum requirements: Education: B.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred

Experience / specific knowledge: Previous process engineering experience (7-10 years preferred). Strong technical background and knowledgeable in operating practices utilized in the petrochemical or LNG industry Well-versed in major codes, standards, and best practices Process safety and fire protection engineering experience in Oil and Gas, Onshore and Offshore, and LNG industries Familiar with and capable of utilizing essential process safety and fire protection engineering software Experience with Process Hazard Analysis, SIL and safety reviews Experience with gas dispersion and fire radiation modelling, passive and active fire protection systems, fire water demand calculations, and fire and gas detection systems Experience and knowledge of process safety design for modularized facilities preferred Strong attention to detail and capable of performing detailed document and drawing reviews of both Contractor and vendor deliverables Demonstrated ability for the development of reports for and presentations to management Strong written and oral communication skills Ability to build relationships quickly in multi-disciplinary, multicultural, and multi-company environments Highly responsible with a demonstrated commitment to the delivery of tasks and targets

Certifications, li enses, registrations: Must possess a valid driver's license and meet company insurability requirements Must meet the criteria to maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) as required by USCG/DHS regulations May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties US citizenship

Competencies, skills, and abilities: Computer skills (competent in MS Office, Windows Operating Systems, OSI PI) Proficiency with Hysys simulation software Good verbal and written communication skills Customer focus Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules Ability to speak and understand English.

Physical demands: Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions Climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkways Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells

Working conditions: May work in low-lit areas Depending upon the location and workload, travel will be required. Travel will vary depending upon business needs Must respond to and address callouts and emergencies after regular business hours including after dark hours, which may require carrying a communication device Preferred education, experience, certifications, competencies, skills, and abilities: Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position: Prefer experience at an LNG facility, a refinery, or a petrochemical facility Prefer Process Safety experience from an operating facility Prefer Process experience with gas treating and refrigeration systems
