Job Summary

Senior Legal Analyst – Investigator - Criminal Prosecution Unit – 09-09-24

The Santa Monica City Attorney's Office seeks a dedicated, detailed-oriented Senior Legal Analyst to collaborate in the Criminal Prosecution unit. Duties include, but are not limited to: Assisting in criminal case investigations and follow-up, conducting extensive interviews with victims and witnesses using appropriate interview techniques, location of victims and witnesses, serving subpoenas, gathering relevant evidence, researching information on-line and through other databases, testifying in court as a case witness and/or expert, importing data into case management system and verifying its accuracy, updating case information in case management, reviewing the case management system for errors or redundancies, ordering police reports both internally and from outside agencies, creating custody files in the case management system, and performing the duties of the Agency CLETS Coordinator for the City Attorney’s Office. Other duties may be required as assigned.

Requirements: The ideal candidate should be familiar with all Microsoft software, SharePoint, California Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (CLETS), CalPhoto, California’s Sex and Arson Registry (CSAR) and other law enforcement databases, and The Los Angeles Superior Court Portal. Candidate should establish and maintain working relationships with City personnel, other government agencies, police departments and the public. Candidates should be able analyze and evaluate facts and evidence. Candidate should have knowledge of rules of evidence and courtroom procedure and the Criminal Justice System. Candidate must have strong research skills and remain current with trends in social media and other internet search tools. Graduation from an accredited university with a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent of three years legal/law enforcement experience; 3-5 years criminal investigation or legal/law enforcement experience preferred. Candidate must have a valid California Class "C" Driver's License and be able to operate a city vehicle.

The hours of the position are 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on alternate Fridays. This is a 9/80 work schedule. Hybrid work schedule is currently available. A background check will be required prior to beginning employment.
