UCLA Health Medical Assistant III - Homeless Healthcare Collaborative in Santa Monica, California

Description

The Homeless Healthcare Collaborative are seeking a Medical Assistant to assist our clinical outreach. The role of the Homeless Healthcare Collaborative Medical Assistant will include providing care to people experiencing homelessness as part of a multidisiplinary team in various settings including on the streets, in encampments, at interim housing/shelter sites, and at community health and resource fairs.

The Medical Assistant will work under the direct supervision of an RN, LVN, Physician, Nurse Practitioner or Physicians Assistant. The Medical Assistant will participate in patient care in the ambulatory setting, recognizing normal and abnormal signs and symptoms, and provide support during life threatening emergencies. The Medical Assistant may perform basic administrative, clerical and technical support services when conditions requiring supervision, training, specific authorization and records are met. This position will include shared responsibility for driving the mobile units.

Salary Range: $28.06 - $37.02 Hourly

Qualifications

Required:

  • Medical Assistant Certification

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association

  • California Driver's License (Position is subject to the California DMV's 'Pull Notice System' and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.)

  • Knowledge of normal and abnormal symptomology and life threatening medical problems.

  • Ability to administer CPR.

  • Ability to skillfully administer oral, IM and subcutaneous medications.

  • Ability to obtain accurate vital signs and drug refills.

  • Ability to assist in medical emergencies and office procedures.

  • Ability to use computerized patient care systems.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families, ancillary departments, physicians and co-workers in a courteous and compassionate manner.

  • Verbal skills to effectively convey sensitive information in a courteous manner in person or on the telephone.

  • Skill to accurately perform an EKG.

  • Ability to order medical and clinical supplies and maintain adequate inventory.

  • Ability to be flexible in working both back and front office to facilitate smooth workflow.

  • Knowledge of all safety requirements when handling Biohazardous specimens or contaminated instruments.

  • Knowledge of MSDS and emergency treatments.

  • Ability to work overtime in cases of emergency.

  • Ability to be punctual and maintain a satisfactory attendance record.

  • Skill in maintaining a harmonious work atmosphere, practicing excellent customer service.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a community setting

  • Experience working in a low or under-resourced setting

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) oral communication skills
