Amergis Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant - COTA in Santa Clarita, California
$40- $50
Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant provides occupational therapy services including treatment, implementation, standardized assessment data, and documentation to students in the school setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides interventions to impact the student’s functional ability (muscle function, endurance, visual coordination, written and verbal communication skills, self-care ability, work capacity, etc.) as delegated by the Occupational Therapist
Understands the role of therapy in the context of the student's age, total needs perspective and ability
Participates in the ongoing assessment of the student’s school environment for equipment needs, and the reduction of barriers or safety risks
Teaches new skills or retrains students in once-familiar daily activities that have become difficult or unfamiliar due to illness or injury
Consistently reports to the Occupational Therapist regarding student progress/status to promote modification of treatment program and any adverse outcomes
Maintains timely, legible, and efficient student documentation
Notes remain concise, pertinent and meet district and practice documentation standards
Instructs student in the use of various types of adaptive equipment and/or splints to improve function
Ensures equipment is in good working order
May utilize physical agents, including but not limited to heat, cold, water, light, electricity, ultrasound and massage
Identifies student needs for other supportive services and notifies the Occupational Therapist
Reports student’s reactions(s) to treatment or change(s) in condition to the physician and Occupational Therapist
Prepares and submits clinical progress-summaries based on the progress toward goals and responses to treatment
Participates in case conferences, meetings and in-service education
Complies with applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations regarding professional standards and practice standards
Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
Current certification or licensure as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the state of practice
Graduate of an accredited school of Occupational Therapy Assistant required
One (1) year of experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant preferred
Pediatric experience preferred
Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
Current CPR if applicable
TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
Computer proficiency required
Must be at least 18 years of age
