Robert Half Payroll Analyst (Contract Talent) in San Ramon, California

Robert Half is seeking a Payroll Analyst to join the Payroll team. The team is responsible for the production of daily payroll checks within the PeopleSoft environment and ensuring all established service levels are met while enforcing adherence to established corporate policies and procedures in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and other regulatory requirements.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Oversee and ensure compliance with Canadian Bill 139.

  • Coordinate wage determination and alternate work week setups.

  • Run and audit US and Canadian tax reporting including yearend reporting.

  • Ensure all reporting complies with applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Coordinate and perform testing/projects between Payroll team and technical staff, including all periodic tax updates, as requested.

  • Monitor and report system issues and identify potential enhancements.

  • Resolve complex and/or escalated customer service issues relating to payroll, taxation, job order setups, and wage determination.

  • Research and resolve payroll interface errors.

  • Validate job order setups and coordinate corrections with the Field.

  • Generate tax corrections and refunds.

  • Manage payroll reconciliations.

  • Audit resolution of complex adjustments and error corrections.

  • Provide feedback on areas for staff development and training.

  • Provide direction to team on complex payroll topics.

  • Participate in and support various projects, as requested.

  • Update Analysts' training materials and conducts training for newly hired Analysts.

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Business, Accounting, or equivalent experience required.

  • 3+ years’ of experience in Accounting and Payroll with a degree; 6+ years’ without a degree.

  • Knowledge of US and Canadian payroll rules and taxes preferred. Previous operational accounting experience preferred.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft applications in (Word, Outlook, Excel - manipulate lines, moving data, construct simple formulas).

  • Previous demonstrated experience with major ERP systems (preferably PeopleSoft), required.

  • Experience in building and modifying queries a plus.

  • Ability to adapt to shifting work priorities and manage multi-tasking.

  • Ability to lead/mentor individuals to collaborate with team to produce deliverables.

  • Ability to meet or exceed productivity and quality standards.

  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas verbally and in writing and diplomatically when handling sensitive and escalated situations.

  • Ability to demonstrate detail-orientation and customer service skills.

  • Ability to work independently and with others.

  • Ability to coordinate daily production activities, prioritize work, and be detailed and service oriented.

  • Ability to demonstrate strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to analyze complex problems, identify potential solutions and apply sound decision-making.

  • Ability to learn quickly, grasp and apply new concepts including technology.

  • Ability to understand and operate in an environment with regulatory/compliance requirements.

  • Ability to transfer job knowledge to Payroll team.

The typical hourly pay rate for this position is shown below and is negotiable depending upon experience and location.

$35.10 - $51.92
