  • Bachelor’s degree in higher education administration or related field

  • 1 year of full-time work experience in student housing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous student or professional experience in College/University setting with a background in Housing & Residential Life or related field.

  • Excellent logistical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.

  • Previous experience with large-scale programming and student programming.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

  • Experience with retention and student success programming

Job Description

The Coordinator for Community Engagement and Leadership will work to support the unit and aid in community development initiatives as it relates to student success, student mattering and belonging, and student leadership. This position will serve as an advisor for the Residence Hall Association and Rally Cats spirit squad. Additionally, the Coordinator for Community Engagement and Leadership will help facilitate large-scale programs and events on behalf of the department. The coordinator will chair related large-scale programming implementation work groups. Finally, this position will collaborate to monitor the student residential experience, with a large focus on the first-year experience. This position will report to the Assistant Director for Community Engagement in the Residential Experience unit in the Department of Housing and Residential Life at Texas State University.

Job Duties

SUPERVISION & ADVISING

  • Supervise and co-advise student leaders who serve on the Residence Hall Association ( RHA ) executive board.

  • Indirectly advise Hall Councils and/or Hall Senators in collaboration with Residence Directors.

  • Supervise department’s resource room student employees; coordinate staffing and supplies within the resource room.

  • Advise the Rally Cats student spirit team and support large-scale campus and department events.

    COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVES

  • Collaborate with in-community staff for in-person activities, systematic follow-up, and student support.

  • Identify student needs and create strategic large-scale programs to engage residential students that provide a sense of mattering and belonging.

  • Implement large-scale programs centered on student engagement and student success.

  • Interpret student engagement data to evaluate community engagement initiatives from an operational and student experience perspective.

  • Support the development of an on-campus returning student model as it relates to community engagement

    DEPARTMENTAL ADMINISTRATION

  • Oversee department Resource Room, ensuring adequate supplies and efficient operations with customer service for staff.

  • Manage large-scale programming, RHA , Hall Council, and resource room budgets.

  • Assess programs and initiatives to ensure the event optimally achieves goals and success indicators.

  • Collaborate with Communications team for marketing and social media presence.

  • Coordinator with department staff to align engagement data with persistence, academic, and development data.

    DEPARTMENTAL AND DIVISIONAL PARTNERSHIPS

  • Liaison with campus stakeholders regarding student engagement and leadership opportunities within the division of student success.

  • Collaborate with various campus partners, including the Office of Admissions, the Career Center, Student Engagement and Involvement, and Student Health.

  • Contribute to and actively participate in strategic planning, department goal setting, data/assessment efforts, and determining community staffing priorities and initiatives.

  • Other duties as requested.
