Bio-Techne Senior Cost Accountant in San Marcos, California

Salary Range: $88,000-130,000

Prepares and directs the implementation of cost accounting methods and activities. Oversees the cost control systems, manages, and interprets cost audits, and prepares cost accounting reports for presentation to management internal audit and KPMG. Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for using the standard cost methodology for the creation and maintenance of Material, Labor and Overhead that make up the Inventory valuation.

  • Monthly reporting includes the ongoing analysis of Labor and Overhead rates that have been established, for possible changes in the first month of the new FY.

  • Complete all analysis of COS, journal entries and Inventory related reports within the first 4 days of the new month. This will ensure the timely upload of month end financials to Corporate Accounting due on day 5.

  • Assist Site Controller with the monthly reporting back up related to other COS aswell as review JEs for segregation of duties/ SOX.

  • Be available to work outside of normal working hours (nights. weekends, holidays) in order to effectively prepare regular cost rolls which must be done when there is no one using the Macola ERP system. Cost rolls are a critical need for this position as well as for the site and division. Work can be performed offsite to accommodate the flexibility of working outside normal working hours.

  • Ensure that all implementation of new procedures and existing procedures related to the value of Inventory, are acceptable and are strictly followed under the established SOX guidelines.

  • Ensure that all reporting requests by Internal Audit and KPMG are completed within thetimelines given.

  • Serve as primary contact for Internal and External auditors for the valuation of Inventory.

  • Prepare and implement Quarterly and Year End Inventory Cost Rolls per established SOXguidelines that will maintain GAAP.

  • Prepare the quarterly Excess & Inventory report and lead the core group responsible for evaluating Inventory on hand and establishing best practices for what is kept in stock.

  • Prepare Serial Lot Expiration date report for monthly review of expiring inventory todetermine date extension or scrap. Also prepare a Quarterly evaluation used to establish the Inventory Reserve on the Balance Sheet.

  • Monitor all BOM changes, Inventory cost changes, Direct Labor hours charged, PPV, Shop order variances and miscellaneous adjustments for accuracy.

  • Create new part numbers, labor routers and review all BOM input created and monitor for any changes that will affect the standard cost.

  • Prepare a monthly labor Chargeability report to monitor hours being charged.Serve as a Finance Leader in all ERP-related issues, including modification and implementation of ERP modules and systems, creation and modification of various reports.

  • Have the ability to prepare Ad Hoc report analysis using the ERP Macola system tables, creating queries through the Access software program.

  • Essential member of a business development team, providing financial and profitability analysis for new product proposals, as well as updated analysis for development phase progressions.

  • Review standard costs on repeat Customer orders for profitability.

  • Assist with aspects of the annual budgeting process and variance reports.

  • Serve as a mentor to more junior staff; provide training to new and existing staff as needed. Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine tasks and transactions.

  • Creation of analytical and periodic information reports for multiple departments including Finance, Operations, Marketing and Sales.

  • Must be able to multi-task and serve to fill in the gaps for other areas in the organization.

  • This includes shop order reviews and reporting as well as closing shop orders.

  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Understand the intricacies of cost accounting, including analysis of variances, standard costing, inventory evaluation, overhead application and product costing.

  • Know the big picture of the manufacturing environment to implement Process Improvements.

  • Must possess excellent mathematical skills.

  • Skills and knowledge in GAAP accounting. Understand AP, AR, inventory, purchase orders and other general ledger processing.

  • Detail oriented. Ability to multitask. Self-starter with initiative.

  • Proficient in problem solving. Ability to review processes and provide logical thinking to improve processes. Ability to define problems, research data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written communications with both internal and external customers. Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents and procedures such as contracts, reports and SOP's.

  • Advanced computer skills and analytical skills including MS Office applications and ERP/ MRP

Minimum Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or other related field and 5+ years of relevant experience. Prior experience in Manufacturing environment, Diagnostics Industry or Related field preferred
