Jacobs is seeking to hire a full-time Instrument and Control Technician for this large water treatment facility. This position performs the inspection, maintenance and repair for all equipment control circuits including electrical, electronic, pneumatic systems, and signal devices. With a 20-year Operations contract, this facility is highly desirable for individuals seeking a lon- term career position. The 100-mgd treatment plant process includes submerged membrane filtration, ozone disinfection, and biological activated carbon to meet strict water quality standards for the San Diego metropolitan area. This facility continues to be one of the largest water treatment plants using submerged membrane filtration in the world.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Interprets and works from blueprints, drawings, sketches, plans and technical documents

  • Maintains the record keeping associated with all electrical repairs and modifications

  • Follows oral and written instructions

  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationship with those contacted during the course of work

  • Performs the calibration and repair of all process metering devices

  • Recommends control system modifications with documented justification that will result in standard utilization of parts and materials and will reduce operating and repair costs

  • Establishes and enforces uniform electrical repair safety procedures at plant site

  • Makes modifications to as-built electrical drawings based on system modifications and updates all electrical component equipment history files

  • Creates work orders to perform daily tasks using MAXIMO CMMS software package and track work performed and inventory used on a per job basis

  • Configure new computers out of the box to be accepted onto the domain and install all necessary software packages for PLC programming and HMI/SCADA monitoring and control

  • Experienced with Allen Bradley PLC’s, Wonderware Controls Software, and Devicenet Control Systems

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Associates' Degree

  • Valid California Drivers' License

  • High School Diploma or GED

Ideally, you'll also have:

  • Two years experience dealing with the maintenance, repair and calibration of electrical control systems in a water or wastewater facility

  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment and instruments used in the maintenance, repair and calibration of electrical and electronic control systems

  • Demonstrated knowledge in MAXIMO CMMS, SCADA, Windows, Allen Bradley PLC’s, Wonderware, and Devicenet

  • Design and implement networking schemes and have a full understanding of IP network architectures

  • Knowledge of the principle and practices of an effective control system preventive maintenance program

  • Knowledge of standard safety principles and related state and federal laws and regulations

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

The physical and environmental demands required to perform the essential duties of this position include standing, walking, sitting, coordination, balance and agility demands, which may include the ability to stoop, kneel, squat, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements. Additional demands may involve a specific level of dexterity, grip strength, climbing and cardiorespiratory demands. The work areas may be indoor, outdoor, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.

The Water Treatment Facility is located in North San Diego County just outside the city of San Marcos, 40-minutes from Downtown San Diego. The San Diego area with its mild year round weather is well known for its limitless outdoor activity’s. From surfing or kayaking along its miles of public sandy beaches, to hiking, cycling, and off-road activities in it’s mountains or deserts. Many visitors from around the world visit the San Diego area due to its world class attractions and proximity to other Southern California attractions. Combined with rural inland areas and open coastal spaces, San Diego offers the finest in the Arts, Museums, Parks, and Professional Sports.

The base salary range for this position is $74,160 to $107,429. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
