Empirical Systems Aerospace, Inc. CNC Operator Programmer in San Luis Obispo, California

CNC OPERATOR/PROGRAMMER

Empirical Systems Aerospace, Inc. is seeking a CNC Operator/Programmer to join our team. ESAero is a growing aerospace company in the San Luis Obispo area and provides various services which include but are not limited to: rapid system development, on-demand niche engineering, hands-on development/testing, and small UAS aerospace system manufacturing. 

**This position is fully on-site at Empirical System's Aerospace in San Luis Obispo, CA

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Responsible for all machining processes within the shop. 

  • Manage schedules, material acquisition and resource loading within the shop.

  • Provide feedback to Engineering teams

  • Work with Quality Assurance on troubleshooting and resolving recurring nonconformances. 

  • Responsible for mentoring and leading shop members to be safe, motivated, and effective.

  • Develop and maintain CNC 3-axis and 5-axis mill programs using CAD/CAM systems such as SolidWorks and Mastercam

  • Perform debugging and testing of CNC programs. 

  • Set up and run 3-axis and 5-axis mills. 

  • Analyze tooling and process failures for root cause and apply corrective actions.

  • Implement cycle time reduction by evaluating and modifying feeds and speeds, wasted machine moves, and evaluation of improved tooling and techniques.

  • Use Work Orders to track and complete jobs and maintaining material traceability.

  • Work closely with Engineering to refine designs that better enable machinability.

  • Support activities around expansion and optimization of machine shop activities.

  • Participates in hiring activities of machine shop technicians.

    Required Qualifications and Skills: 

  • 5-axis programming experience. 

  • Ability to design machining fixtures.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings. 

  • Well versed in GD&T and inspection procedures and processes.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and able to react to shifting priorities to meet business needs.

  • Proficient with inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, pin gauges, etc.

  • Experience with ISO9001 or AS9100 quality standards.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.

    Desired Qualifications and Skills: 

  • Experience converting labor intensive machining processes into lights out machining scenarios.

  • Experience with pallet changing systems. 

  • Understanding of 5S, six-sigma and lean principles.

  • Experience with ERP/MRP workflows.

  • Ability to perform basic preventative maintenance on CNC machines.
