Job Description

Saia LTL Freight is currently hiring for Local Pick up & Delivery drivers. Our Local P&D driver will operate various tractor-trailer combinations between company terminals and customer facilities or work sites within the terminals geographic service area. Our Drivers will sort, handle, load, and/or unload freight at various companies and customer locations. Our Pickup and Delivery drivers typically work Monday-Friday and are home daily. Our local drivers typically have the weekends off and are paid overtime after 45 hours for the week (unless other local laws apply).

Job Responsibilities

  • Operate vehicle safely within DOT regulations

  • Conduct all pre and post trip inspections of assigned equipment.

  • Understand and carry out oral or written instructions, including those on freight bills, manifests and other shipping documents to determine the nature and amount of freight loaded

  • Use safe handling and lifting procedures to load and unload freight with the assistance of hand trucks, pallet jacks and any other available equipment to move, load, arrange and rearrange freight.

  • Comprehend and comply with hazardous material handling, placard regulations and required emergency response to hazardous material spills or incidents.

  • Perform work required in a timely and safe manner. Maintain adequate production in order to meet service schedules and customer commitments.

  • Provide professional representation of the company when in contact with public safety, law enforcement officials and the general public.

Compensation Range:

$30.50 - 35.00 per hour

Job Requirements

  • 21 years of age or older

  • Current Class A CDL

  • 1 year tractor trailer experience with some experience in the last 24 months

  • Doubles/Triples, Hazmat, and Tankers endorsements

  • Must pass a driving test on company equipment in order to demonstrate driving skills and abilities.

  • Basic understanding of hand held mobile applications
