We are seeking a product application specialist with a passion and curiosity to discover new ways to improve our customer's success using our vibrational spectroscopy instruments and software. FTIR Spectroscopy instruments provide scientific insights across a wide variety of applications including pharmaceutical and industrial QA/QC, contaminant analysis, forensic investigation of toxicological substances and trace materials and industrial chemical/polymer analysis. In this role you will contribute to the success of our customers by delivering solutions that have a meaningful impact on their work. The ideal candidate will drive growth for the portfolio by investigating and developing new applications through engagement with customers, key opinion leaders and commercial teams globally.

Location: Onsite in Madison, WI, San Jose, CA, Wilmington, DE, Chicago, IL, Houston, TX locations

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a detailed understanding and strong application knowledge of the Thermo Fisher Scientific Nicolet FTIR product line, including the theory and operation of FTIR spectrometer and IR Microscope and their applications in material science research, industrial, pharmaceutical, environmental and bioscience.

  • Communicate regularly with the product management and R&D teams and actively provide input on new product requirements, software and service offering, feedback on system performance, features, and potential problems, and optimize development of methods and applications for FTIR spectroscopy.

  • Keep informed of key applications and industry trends. Identify, cultivate and manage collaborations with key opinion leaders (KOL) and commercial partners to generate new applications contents to demonstrate our product value proposition and support the marketing activities.

  • Cultivate positive customer relationships and function as a high-level customer interface for specific instrument/applications issues, explain sophisticated technology details, give in depth technical presentations, prepare product and workflow demonstrations, and assist in customers’ applications development.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related fields required, Ph.D. preferred. A bachelor’s degree with 5-7 years of relevant industrial experience will be considered.

  • 3+ years experience with FTIR or IR Microscope is a MUST; additional experience with Raman and Raman microscopes is highly preferred; and experience with NIR is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to perform essential functions (Non-negotiable):

  • Technical:

  • Proven experience in FTIR and IR Microscopy operation. Experience with Nicolet FTIR hardware/software, and macro programming will be a plus

  • Familiar with microscopy laboratory practices and procedures, including sample preparation.

  • Logical thought process with attention to details.

  • Communication: clear, concise, understandable

  • Effective time and project management

  • Flexibility to work as required at busy times such as demos and trade shows.

  • Consistently follow up on items/tasks

  • Demonstrates consistent decisiveness (independent action)

  • Minimal direct supervision required

  • Business Acumen

  • Developed broad business scope

  • Know/understand the relevant market.

  • Excellent public presentation skills and the ability to interact with and influence customers.

  • Proven ability to work within a collaborative team environment and focus on individual, time dependent projects with.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Wisconsin is $83,300.00–$115,000.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
