The News Department of Univision 14 Bay Area is looking for talented News Writer to join our team! The successful candidate should be proud of the commitment of serving our local community. As a News Producer, you will cover news in San Jose.

ABOUT YOU:

You are a strategic, motivated, enthusiastic self-starter who can work effectively in a dynamic news environment. You possess a strong understanding of compelling storytelling across all platforms, production workflows and be able to lead in high stress situations. Strong preference is given to individuals with market experience or an understanding of Bay Area Hispanic demographics, geography, and newsmakers in the market.

YOUR DAY-DAY: (aka Responsibilities)

  • Participation on daily production of news programs including newscasts and special coverages.

  • Write and edit VO’s and VOSOT’s for broadcast.

  • Generate copy for teases and bumps. Also write intros and other news stories assigned.

  • Translate aptly from English to Spanish, copy-edit news stories, revise spelling for graphics and supers and works with producers with informational banners for the newscast.

  • Quick reaction to breaking news and news updates.

  • Oversee and organize production elements of newscasts.

  • Maintain good and clear communication with managers as well as the producer, executive producer, anchors, production, digital team, assignment desk, and technical crews.

  • Strong command of editorial standards, ethics and legal matters pertaining to broadcast

  • Works in the control room during live newscasts and communicates with the production staff and talent.

YOU HAVE: (aka Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or related field

  • At least 2 year’s experience in major news market

  • Working knowledge of newsroom operation systems (iNews, vizRT)

  • A passion for news, including reading competitive websites; updating stories with new information; and following social media daily.

  • Are fully bilingual with the ability to fluently read and write in Spanish and English

  • Flexible to work weekends and holidays.

  • Experience and/or understanding of Bay Area market (preferred).

Salary: $65,937.11 - 74,910.66 + Benefits

Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. Please note the national salary range listed in the job posting reflects the new hire salary range across levels and U.S. locations that would be applicable to the position.
