Who are you

 

Apollo is looking for a VP Software Engineering to join our remote, growing team. This role is responsible for coordinating, building and launching Apollo’s mobile apps, backend environment, and machine learning and generative AI models.

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you have previous experience building consumer technology software that communicates with a Bluetooth device, and has a robust and modern cloud backend. You will drive new technology development and help architect scalable solutions that span native mobile development, data architecture, managed backend services (AWS), and AI-based algorithms.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual, who can roll-up sleeves and help build. You need to be able to break down complex technical problems, and coordinate a team of strong engineers, both internally and externally, to complete product features and tasks. You will play a pivotal role in leading our engineering team through the next phase of growth and innovation as we adopt generative AI to help understand our customers’ mental health, and find and prove ways that Apollo can actively improve it. This position requires a unique blend of technical prowess, leadership skills, and a deep understanding of technologies.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a diverse and decentralized team of engineers, including specialists in data engineering, mobile engineering, algorithms, QA, firmware, and hardware engineering.

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of our mobile applications with a focus on Bluetooth connectivity and user experience.

  • Drive the integration of advanced technologies such as machine learning, generative AI, and large language models into our product offerings.

  • Implement robust data-driven strategies for product testing and iterative development to ensure the highest standards of reliability and functionality.

  • Maintain hands-on involvement in coding and code reviews as a regular part of job duties.

  • Work closely with our VP Product to scope development and design work to fit the demanding schedules of a growing startup.

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and manage an external team of engineers at a consulting firm in India.

  • Foster an inclusive and innovative engineering culture that accommodates team members across multiple time zones.

    Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a VP of Engineering or in a similar leadership role within the consumer products sector (consumer health tech background is preferred, but not required)

  • Extensive experience in mobile app development on both Android and iOS platforms.

  • Expertise in Bluetooth technology and the development of Bluetooth-connected devices.

  • Experience with machine learning, generative AI, and large language models (preferred, but not required)

  • Demonstrated ability to apply data-driven approaches to product testing and iteration.

  • Exceptional leadership skills with experience managing decentralized teams and working with international partners.

  • Ability to code and review code is essential.

  • Previous experience in a consumer health tech company is highly desirable.

  • Experience at a startup or fast-paced technology organization.
